The National Education Association believes in the adoption of the International System of Units (SI metric system). The Association advocates that the SI system be taught at all educational levels.
National Science Teachers Association- 1999
The efficiency and effectiveness of the metric system has long been evident to scientists, engineers, and educators…..We recognize that the use of the customary units will persist for some time, especially in the early grades, but will encourage the use of the metric system whenever possible. We urge the re-establishment of the U.S. Metric Board to support and encourage the use of the metric system nationwide.
National Council of Teachers of Mathematics-2006
The United States continues to make progress in implementing metric measurement in more goods and services. The National Council of Teachers of Mathematics supports efforts by the U.S. government to make a transition to the metric system (SI) as the nation’s primary measurement system and to reestablish the U.S. Metric Board to support and encourage the use of the metric system.
